The joys of outdoor Toys

Muddy feet with big smiles

We all have those fond memories of playing outside when we were little, where our imaginations ran endlessly. Creating mud cakes in the garden, running through the woods pretending to be fairies, or competing against friends as you chased sticks down the stream next to your house. Adventures to the highest hills taking the Kites out to fly in the blustering wind til our cheeks went red and coming home after a treasure hunt with muddy socks and a hand full of precious pebbles.

Here at Domestic Science we have always had a love for retro toys, with classic games that certainly evoke some fond memories and is great for getting children up and active for some outdoor fun. And what better way to end the school holidays than by chucking on some old clothes, bracing the unpredictable weather and inspire them to get outdoors and reconnect with nature before heading back to the classroom. Let's get some family friendly fun, learn a new skill and play. We have a variety of toys that are eager to be taken on an adventure outside. Below we have picked out a few of our favourites but make sure to browse our full collection of Toys on our website!

Fishing Kit

Learning to fish takes patience so be sure to cast away and have fun! Huckleberry aims to inspire us to get outdoors and reconnect with nature. Let's get some family friendly fun, learn a new skill and play.

box of slugs

These novelty kids slugs are rather realistic, the perfect activity for your mischievous child who enjoys playing tricks or for those who love nature. They are squidgy and silly and slimy, what more could a child want?

Catapult Glider

Build and fly this fun catapult glider, a fun gift for those budding engineers... Have fun putting together this lightweight stealth glider and watch it fly like a dream, when launched from the super catapult!

PRESSED FLOWER FRAME ART

By playing the game, you will experience and learn so much more about the edible and inedible gifts of nature. Go out and see what you can find or recognise, but treat nature kindly!

PULL ALONG WOODEN LOBSTER

We love this pull along lobster by Goki Toys. The Lobster clatters happily with his pincers while following the children around. Bright and colourful, hours of fun.

Metal Compass

Encourage the little explorer in your house this summer. Teach them how to use a compass, take it on your summer holidays or let them navigate around your house or nearby park.

Foragers Playing cards

By playing the game, you will experience and learn so much more about the edible and inedible gifts of nature. Go out and see what you can find or recognise, but treat nature kindly!

teddy footless cotton tights

Retro teddy footless tights with braces for your little ones. The acorn brown makes your child look like a little teddy bear. Made by Silly Silas, they are perfect for keeping you child warm whilst they play outside.

WOODEN SAIL BOATS

These adorable little sail boats are perfect for your children as a little present for them to play with outdoors. With a wooden boat base and a fabric sail, pop them in a pool of water and let your kids play.

Need some inspiration? One of our favourite local spots for a walk is Minchinhampton common (as seen in the photo below), where you can see the cows grazing up top and take in the beautiful view. It's the perfect place to fly the retro catapult glider or test out the retro ride on car. Westonbirt Arboretum is also a favourite of many to take the kids for a day trip, with their beautiful Autumn trees and long walks to tire them out, collecting fallen flowers and leaves on their way to create pressed flower framed art.

We are totally in love with this wonderful retro ride on racing car here at Domestic Science. Whether it's a leisurely spin or a fast and furious race that your young driver prefers, this delightful ride on toy will certainly fit the bill. As the car is played with over time, it will acquire the inevitable knocks and bumps, creating its own history and providing many stories to pass down with it.
